The Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of Prognosticators... Punxsutawney Phil gave his annual spring arrival forecast on this Groundhog Day.
Pennsylvania's (and Hollywood's) favorite rodent weatherman told official handlers he saw his shadow just after 8:30am this morning. According to German tradition, if the mammal casts a shadow after waking up from his hibernation on February 2nd (a Christian holiday known as Candlemas) we will see six more weeks of winter. If he sees no shadow, spring is supposed to come early.

Despite overcast skies (and temperatures near freezing) at Gobbler's Knob this morning, Punxsy Phil cast a shadow. (You have to wonder if that had more to with the hundreds of lights and TV cameras waiting with bated breath for the rodent to awake...)
Atlanta has a Groundhog Weatherman, too. General Beauregard Lee, P.h.D. lives at the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn and is also widely known for his seeing abilities.
If you're tired of the winter weather, listen to Beau Lee. The southern furry critter did not see his shadow so spring is just around the corner for the Southeast.
-As for me, I'm making the prediction that spring will start March 20th.-
