Pregnant Woman Goes out to Buy Apples, but Dies in Elevator

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Friday, January 29, 2010 | | 0 comments »
A rescue service of Ukraine’s Zaporozhye region received an emergency call on January 26. It was reported that a young woman had stuck between the doors of the elevator in the apartment building where she lived.

“When we arrived, medics, policemen and forensic experts were already there. Unfortunately, the woman was dead. He leg was stuck between the doors of the elevator cage and the elevator shaft. For some reason the elevator went up at the moment after the woman made only one step inside. Her foot was still outside when the doors closed,” a rescuer said.

The woman died because of internal bleeding and pain shock, forensic exporters concluded. The woman was five months pregnant.

An official representing local authorities said that the elevator, where the accident occurred, had been repaired in 2004 and then certified twice in 2006 and 2008. The next inspection was planned for the spring of 2010.

Specialists confirmed that the electric system of the elevator was in order. However, a malfunction is always possible. Most likely, the woman pressed the button before she had entered the elevator completely. The doors were still open, but the elevator started moving. Most likely, the woman fell down and could move her leg inside very quickly. If she had entered the elevator and then pressed the button, nothing would have happened.

“I knew that woman, she was a wonderful person. She died, her husband lost his wife and the unborn child at once. They got married only 6 months ago. She only went out to buy some apples,” a woman living in the same building said.

World's Strangest Fish To Become Extinct

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Friday, January 29, 2010 | | 0 comments »
One of the most amazing and probably the ugliest fish in the world, the blobfish, is on the brink of extinction. This weird creature does not look like fish at all. It has no scale and no clear-cut fins. It does have something that looks like a face with eyes placed wide apart, a large nose and a very sad expression.

The fish does have the reason to be upset: scientists say that the fish stands on the brink of extinction.

The fish inhabits deep waters off the coasts of Australia and Tasmania. It normally lives at a depth of 800 meters. The fish lives at the same depths with crabs and lobsters – the edible crustaceans that trawler fishermen catch.

"Blobfish are very vulnerable to being dragged up in these nets and from what we know this fish is only restricted to these waters. The Australian and New Zealand deep trawling fishing fleets are some of the most active in the world so if you are a blobfish then it is not a good place to be. A very large amount of the deep sea is under threat from bottom trawling which is one of the most destructive forms of fishing," Marine expert Professor Callum Roberts said.

Blobfish are found at depths where the pressure is several dozens of times higher than at sea level, which would likely make gas bladders inefficient. To remain buoyant, the flesh of the blobfish is primarily a gelatinous mass with a density slightly less than water; this allows the fish to float above the sea floor without expending energy on swimming. The relative lack of muscle is not a disadvantage as it primarily swallows edible matter that floats by in front of it.

Satellite TV 'making humans invisible to aliens on other planets'

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Thursday, January 28, 2010 | , | 0 comments »
Satellite television and the digital revolution is making humanity more and more invisible to inquisitive aliens on other planets, the world's leading ET hunter has said.

That might be good news for anyone who fears an ''Independence Day'' – style invasion by little green men. But it is also likely to make the search for extraterrestrial intelligence by Earthly scientists harder, Dr Frank Drake believes.

Dr Drake, who founded the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) organisation in the US 50 years ago, said the digital age was effectively gagging the Earth by cutting the transmission of TV and radio signals into space.

At present, the Earth was surrounded by a 50 light year-wide ''shell'' of radiation from analogue TV, radio and radar transmissions, he said.

But although the signals had spread far enough to reach many nearby star systems, they were rapidly vanishing before the march of digital technology.

To a race of observing aliens, digital TV signals would look like noise, said Dr Drake.

Digital transmissions were also much weaker than their terrestrial equivalent.

While old-style TV transmitters might generate one million watts, the power of a satellite signal was around 20 watts. Satellites also aimed their transmissions at the Earth, with almost none being allowed to escape into space.

Use of cable prevented the leakage of signals even more effectively.

''Now the actual amount of radiation escaping into space is about two watts, not much more than you get from a cell phone,'' said Dr Drake.

''If this continues into the future very soon our world will become undetectable. Using ourselves as an example, it means the difficulty of finding other civilisations will be much greater.

''We're going to have to search many more stars and many more frequencies.''

Any alien civilisations that existed were likely to be far more advanced than ours, he said. Their analogue TV age probably came and went long ago, before humans even thought about searching the sky for signs of intelligent life.

Dr Drake was speaking at a discussion meeting taking place at the Royal Society in London entitled ''The Detection of Extraterrestrial Life and the Consequences for Science and Society''.

He said he remained convinced that intelligent life existed beyond the Earth, despite the lack of success of SETI scientists who have spent half a century tuning into the stars.

The famous ''Drake Equation'' which he invented to estimate the chances of finding ET indicated there might be 10,000 detectable civilisations in our galaxy, the Milky Way.

However, even this large number equated to just one in 10 million stars.

''We have to search 10 million stars for signals and we have to do it over and over,'' said Dr Drake. ''We haven't remotely come close to that.''

Aliens could reveal themselves with technologies that are currently far beyond the scope of humans, he pointed out.

One possibility was using your own star as an incredibly powerful lens to amplify light and radio signals.

This could be done because of the way gravity bends light, as demonstrated by Albert Einstein.

The Sun bent light from distant stars to a focal point where one million-fold magnifications should be possible, dwarfing the abilities of the most powerful telescopes. Unfortunately, the focal point is far beyond the edge of the Solar System and too far to reach using current technology, said Dr Drake.

But it was likely advanced civilisations elsewhere had mastered the technique, he added.

A ''gravitational lens'' of this type could be powerful enough to map the continents and oceans of a planet in a distant star system.

Reversing the technology to use the lens as a transmitter instead of a receiver would enable aliens to beam massively powerful signals across the galaxy, said Dr Drake.

They could be using such a system to announce their presence to other planets, he said. But although the signal would be strong, it was likely to be transient as the beam was swept from place to place.

Another method of communication could be through the use of incredibly powerful pulsed lasers, such as those now being developed for nuclear fusion reactors.

Such a laser would produce a flash that for an instant could outshine a star. SETI had now started to look for signals of this type, so far with no success.

''In the universe elsewhere there is intelligent life. I'm confident about that, but how easy it is to find we don't know,'' said Dr Drake.

Naked Aussies to descend on Opera House

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Thursday, January 28, 2010 | | 0 comments »
The Sydney Opera House will be transformed into a picture of mass nudity when thousands of Australians bare all on the steps of the landmark in March.

Renowned artist Spencer Tunick, famous for photographing masses of naked people in public, says his next installation will take place in Sydney on March 1.

Tunick says he's hoping to get more than 2000 people to strip off for his work, which aims to create a human base for the Opera House.

"The people will be either standing, intertwined, reclining," Tunick told AAP from Hawaii.

"No yoga positions," he laughed.

"But mostly easy to do positions, that will reflect the surface of the steps to turn into a human canvas of sorts."

The installation will go ahead rain, hail or shine.

The New-York based photographer has completed works on every continent, including Antarctica, but admitted it was sometimes difficult to find people "to take that leap of faith".

He urged the adventurous to sign up.

"It's not as easy as you think," Tunick said.

"I'm not trying to convince anyone who doesn't want to do it – I'm just trying to get the people that are on the fence to come and show up.

"You'll have an incredibly good time. It's very fulfilling."

Tunick, who photographed thousands of naked people in Melbourne in 2001, first scouted the Opera House as a location almost 10 years ago.

This latest work had been commissioned by the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, but was for people of all sexual orientations, Tunick said.

A New Mardi Gras spokeswoman says the group has been in discussions with Tunick for two years about his Sydney project, and received approval from the City of Sydney, the Opera House Trust, the Royal Botanic Gardens, and the police.

The City Of Sydney contributed A$20,000 towards the project, she said, but she would not reveal the total cost, saying only that it was "a lot".

Tunick's work is now less controversial than his first photo shoots of naked people in the streets in the mid-1990s, but he says public nudity is still a hot topic.

"The naked body in film, in theatre in television is quite accepted at this point but as far as the naked body in public space I think there's still a lot of area to work on there," he said.

"It's difficult."

Looking ahead, Tunick says there's still many places he'd love to create installations including in the caldera of a volcano, eastern Europe and the Caribbean.

"You never know, I might end up in Perth one day," Tunick added.

All Australians wishing to take part in Spencer Tunick's Sydney installation must register their interest at www.mardigras.org.au/tunick

Breathing Fresh Air Can Be Extremely Dangerous

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Thursday, January 28, 2010 | | 0 comments »
Everyone knows that the air in metropolises is contaminated. Yet, scientists believe that the quality of air in Siberia or in the Far East of Russia is no better than, say, in Moscow. Simple breathing can be dangerous. Recently, ozone made it to the black list. Now, think twice before you breathe in that fresh smell after a thunderstorm.

Here is the list of the major air contaminators:

Suspended Particles

These are particles smaller than 10 microns - dust, soot and smoke.

Suspended matters form during combustion of nearly any type of fuel as well as during soil drainage. In the cities, these particles are the main reason for smog.

Suspended matters may be both nearly harmless and extremely hazardous, depending on chemical compounds settling on the particles’ surface. Respiratory passages suffer from dust and soot the most, while development of other diseases is also possible, including heart diseases and cancerous tumors. Suspended particles are especially dangerous when the air contains excessive amounts of nitrogen and sulfur oxides.

Sulphur Dioxide (SO2)

This is a gas that, when combined with water in the air, forms sulfurous acid. As a result, the areas where a great deal of SO2 is emitted into the air have frequent acid rains harmful for plants and soil microorganisms. Sulphur dioxide is hazardous for people as well, especially those suffering from lung and bronchus diseases.

Within the recent years the levels of dioxide in Europe, the USA and Russia have dropped significantly and continue dropping. Higher levels of dioxide are observed in the areas where power stations, boiler rooms and smelters use coal as a fuel. The largest amounts of SO2 are registered in Norilsk, where average concentration exceeds the admissible limit value nearly three-fold.

Nitrogen Oxide (NOx)

This chemical is released during combustion at high temperatures, for example, in car engines, at power station and factories. Same as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide causes acid rains.

Besides, this chemical participates in chemical reactions involving the sun light. As a result, even more dangerous toxins are released along with heavy smog. The air contaminated with nitrogen oxide turns brownish-black.

Even low concentration of nitrogen oxide causes interrupted breathing and cough. Children raised in the areas with high concentration of NOx frequently suffer from serious respiratory tract diseases.

Carbon Oxide (CO)

This is the most familiar compound. It is a product of incomplete fuel combustion mostly released by cars. It lingers in the air for approximately a month, and then oxidized to form a relatively harmless CO2. Carbon oxide decreases the ability of blood to transfer oxygen for a long time. As a result, the heart and brain suffer from oxygen deficit.

Ozone (O3)

We all know that ozone forms a protective layer nine to 30 miles above the Earth’s surface, keeping the planet from the dangerous Sun. Yet, ozone located relatively low lacks this protective function. On the contrary, it is a strong oxidizer, dangerous for plants and animals. Affected by ozone, humans suffer from serious burns of the respiratory tract mucosa coat. Children who spend the summer in cities with hot climate suffer from ozone the most.

The largest concentrations of ozone are observed in the cities. Exhaust contains high quantities of light organic matters and nitrogen oxide, the building blocks of ozone that forms during hot weather and sunny days. Later, ozone mixes with the air and travels long distances with the wind.

Lead (Pb)

Lead gets into the human body with air, food and water. It also settles on dust particles and is stored in blood, bones and soft tissues. Lead causes serious kidney, liver, nervous system and other organs diseases. It also causes psychological disorders, fits and mental retardation, especially in children.

For many decades, lead was thrown into the atmosphere along with exhausts of leaded gasoline. In Russia, production of leaded gasoline was banned in 2003, which caused a significant decrease in concentration of lead in the atmosphere.

Like other heave metals, lead penetrates plants, so people should be careful when burning fallen leaves, because the dangerous toxin will get back into the air.

Volatile Organic Matters

These compounds, that include benzene, formaldehyde, and 1,3 - butadiene, form during incomplete combustion of car fuel or evaporation of petroleum, oil and lubricants. Even relatively small concentrations may cause cancer, cardiovascular diseases and liver and kidney malfunction. They may also cause congenital deformities and infertility.

Volatile organic matters easily enter into chemical reactions with oxygen and other oxidizers, releasing even more dangerous toxins.

Toxic Matters

They include compounds that cause serious harm to plants and animals even in trace amounts. The American Clean Air Act lists 188 of such matters released by industrial facilities, 21 matters in car exhaust and 33 compounds typical for the city air.

Most toxins are cancerogenic and cause DNA damage. They are particularly harmful when settled on the surface of suspended particles.

It was recently discovered that mutations caused by toxins can even be inherited. Considering small concentration, it is impossible to reveal toxins without special equipment. Yet, toxins concentration is one of the main criteria for assessing ecological environment.

Helicopter, 50 firefighters deployed to rescue dog

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Wednesday, January 27, 2010 | | 0 comments »
The Los Angeles Fire Department has defended its decision to deploy about 50 firefighters and a helicopter to rescue a dog from the Los Angeles River.

Capt. Steve Ruda said the risk involved with saving the German shepherd from the storm-swollen river on Friday was not as extravagant as it appeared.

The department has received praise for the hour-long rescue operation, but has also come under criticism for using so many resources.

Mr Ruda said there was no extra cost because the firefighters were on duty and stationed nearby.

The German shepherd, nicknamed Vernon after the southern California town where it was found, was saved when a firefighter dangling from a helicopter grabbed the dog and held tight as they were taken to an overpass. The dog bit the firefighter, who lost a nail and fractured his thumb.

Joe St Georges, 50, said he had no hard feelings toward the dog.

"I didn't really have the time to establish any rapport with the dog," Mr St Georges told reporters after being released from County USC medical centre. "He's cold, he's wet, he's scared, and then here's this stranger jumping on his back for all intents and purposes, and he did what dogs do."

The animal had no name tag or chip, and police are searching for its owner.

Drunk Russian Sailor Travels to Japan on Rubber Boat to Get More Beer

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Wednesday, January 27, 2010 | | 0 comments »
Excessive alcohol consumption makes people commit different crimes, and unlawful border crossing is probably the rarest of them. Yet, that’s exactly what happed to a Sakhalin sailor Alexei Vashkevich, who used a rubber boat to get to Japan in search of more booze.

It happened on April 7, 2007. Alexei Vashkevich served as a sailor on a Russian boat. The boat was fishing for sea urchins in Russian maritime belt near Tanfilyev Island of the Small Kurile Chain (Sakhalin Region).

Neither the boat nor the crew members had any documents allowing border crossing. This, however, did not stop Vashkevich who decided to take a rubber motor boat and go to Japan to get some beer when the crew ran out of alcohol. The sailor, who was badly intoxicated, took off on his adventure. Despite being drunk, he had no problems finding his way, and approximately an hour later he disembarked in the Japanese port Nemuro. In the port, he purchased a case of beer and carried it towards his boat.

Unfortunately, the sailor ran out of luck. While he was in a store, members of a local fishing cooperative noticed his abandoned boat, thought it was suspicious, and called the police. The police promptly arrived, and met Vashkevich at his boat.

The sailor’s drinking buddies never got the promised beer. The Japanese were not too strict with the trespasser because he was intoxicated at the time of the crime and, according to Nemuro officials, could not fully comprehend what he was doing. Vashkevich was arrested for unlawful crossing of the Japan’s State Border and spent a few days in a local prison. He then was deported to Russia.

On Russian territory, he was still considered a person involved in a criminal case. Vashkevich quickly moved to a suburb of the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and immediately went to work in the sea, so investigators could not find him for a long time. Only last fall the police was able to find the sailor and start a trial.

An interesting case that has nothing to do with alcohol happened on January 13 on the Russian border at Primorye. A Chinese citizen, equipped with a compass, was walking on the ice of the Ussuri River where he was arrested by employees of the Border Control of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. The Chinese man said that he was heading to New York, and was in Russia only in transit. Criminal charges were filed against him, and he is facing a fine of 200,000 rubles (approximately 6.6 thousand US dollars) or up to two years in prison.

Facebook is Cited in One of Five English Divorces

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Wednesday, January 27, 2010 | , | 0 comments »
But is it really the culprit? Experts discuss the issue

Rafael Martins, especially for iG Sao Paulo | 23/01/2010 08:00

A British survey revealed that Facebook is responsible for 20% of divorces in the country. The survey took into account five thousand petitions for separation and found 989 instances that cited the network of relationships.

But is the Internet a tool that facilitates betrayals? According to psychologist Carmen Magalhães, specializing in relationships, it can distort reality. "Everything can be planned and calculated on the Internet. The shy becomes spirited and outgoing. Pictures shown are the best, with angles that people want to show," he says. "It's easier to wear a mask and seductive escape from reality. The man loves the game of conquest and has a tool that facilitates their escapades without interfering in their day to day, as he can talk of work," he added.

Spy Web

The fact that your boyfriend or husband spends hours on the Internet does not mean he is cheating and it is not indicated to scour all the sites he’s visited. Carmen says that if a person suddenly changes behavior, it may be a sign that something is wrong. "Aggressiveness, excuses that do not exist and distance may reveal missing dialogue between the couple. But do not encourage anyone to search social networking sites in search of some trace. If there is love and trust, it is best left for a discussion. It may be that the process is reversed if both realize what has going missing," he suggests.

Luciana Ruffo, who is a psychologist at the Center for Research in Psychology and Computer Science of PUC-SP (NPPI), says that, in fact, people do not cheat because of the internet. It only facilitates the process. "People use these channels as evidence of a betrayal, but I do not think it is the cause, 20% is a very high number to blame on the network,” he said.

According to her, if a person has a predisposition to betray, they do not need any social networking site for that. "What happens is that these sites make it easier to find like-minded people and therefore may accelerate the process. If there is no intention or predisposition, it will not be used as a tool for this. The Internet increases the possibility, but does not create it. It does not make you betray. You cannot blame a tool for human behavior. The Internet is a reflection of what we do in real life," he adds.

Sites like Facebook cause many fights between couples. The explanation for this, says Luciana, is that people have fantasies that are unique. "When you're with someone, you have the illusion that there is no space for the partner to think of others. Social networking sites show people that they are not unique." And that does not mean talking to someone means a betrayal. "When read by someone who does not know the context, a message may seem simple proof of treachery and generate a fight or even a separation," he says.

"I think that when there is a case of real suspicion, the woman can use the Net to see if she can find out what goes on, but not to check up on her boyfriend or husband all the time," says Luciana.

Real x virtual

The psychiatrist and psychotherapist Luiz SCOCCO, specializing in sexual disorders, says that in his office there has been increased cases of patients reporting virtual betrayal. But he believes that they differ little from real situations. "Imagine you're at a party with your boyfriend, you go to the bathroom and as soon as you are gone he is talking to a girl. It's something like that. That contact can evolve into a telephone exchange, a conversation, a meeting ". Luiz says the virtual world facilitates rapprochement between people but, ultimately, a betrayal is a betrayal. "You should act as with any treachery, that is, talk a lot, try to consider the problems of the couple, and the connection and to separate, if necessary," he says.

Luiz says that the Internet has given rise to new formats for compulsions and bad habits and that people should, first of all, take care of their physical and mental health, filling their lives with productive activities. "When your life is devoid of quality, then it is just filled with things like this, that is, shallow virtual relationships," he says.

According to the psychologist, if the relationship is worn the Internet is way too easy. "If your relationship is bad, virtual distraction will not help to advance it. It is best to try to work at what is still within the relationship itself. The problem of betrayal has always existed, the Internet only made things easier. These are issues that existed long before the computer, "he says.

Mountain renamed after Avatar

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Tuesday, January 26, 2010 | | 0 comments »
A craggy peak in a scenic part of southern China has been renamed after the floating mountains featured in Hollywood blockbuster Avatar, with the province hoping to cash in on the movie's massive success.

The "Southern Sky Column" in Zhangjiajie in southern Hunan province formally had its named changed to "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain" in a ceremony on Monday, according to the Zhangjiajie government's official website.

The government said the floating "Hallelujah Mountains" in the movie were inspired by the "Southern Sky Column," as a Hollywood photographer spent time shooting there in 2008.

"Many pictures he took then become prototypes for various elements in the Avatar movie, including the 'Hallelujah Mountains'," the website said.

Avatar, directed by James Cameron, has so far sold $1.841 billion worth of tickets worldwide, making it the biggest international release of all time.

Chinese cinemas last week began taking the 2D version of Avatar off their screens to make way for domestic movies over the upcoming Chinese new year holiday, though the wildly popular 3D version is still available.

Avatar has so far made around $80 million in China, and has become the country's most popular film ever.

Zhangjiajie hopes to capitalise on that fame.

Tourists can now join a "Magical tour to Avatar-Pandora" or a "Miracle tour to Avatar's floating mountain," the Zhangjiajie branch of China International Travel Service Corp said on its website.

"Pandora is far but Zhangjiajie is near," the municipal government added on its website.

"Welcome to Zhangjiajie to see 'Avatar's Hallelujah Mountains' and discover the real world of Pandora."

3D Films Can Make You Paranoid

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Tuesday, January 26, 2010 | | 0 comments »
A passion for 3D films can be very bad for your eyes. Movie–goers should not watch 3D films more than three or four times a week, whereas such films are not recommended at all to some people for medical reasons, Russian oculists believe.

Russian eye doctors had to pay attention to the phenomenon of 3D films as a result of numerous complaints they received from those who had a 3D movie experience. After watching a film in special polarized glasses, people would complain of discomfort, headache and difficulties in adapting their eyesight to the environment, the Noviye Izvestia newspaper wrote.

Polarized 3D glasses create the illusion of three-dimensional images by restricting the light that reaches each eye, an example of stereoscopy which exploits the polarization of light. To present a stereoscopic motion picture, two images are projected superimposed onto the same screen through different polarizing filters. The viewer wears low-cost eyeglasses which also contain a pair of different polarizing filters. As each filter passes only that light which is similarly polarized and blocks the light polarized in the opposite direction, each eye sees a different image. This is used to produce a three-dimensional effect by projecting the same scene into both eyes, but depicted from slightly different perspectives. Since no head tracking is involved, several people can view the stereoscopic images at the same time.

Specialists of Russia’s Eye Microsurgery Institution said that a person watching a 3D movie may feel discomfort and dizziness during the first 30 minutes after the film ends: the muscles responsible for the crystalline lens become weak and the color response decreases.

The above-mentioned symptoms are connected with the brain’s reaction to three-dimensional images. Specialists do not recommend this format to those who suffer from motion-induced sickness. 3D films are not recommended for those who may have a strong desire to remove the glasses. Up to ten percent of people may have the unpleasant symptoms, Russian scientists said. Two or three 3D films a week is a norm for everyone else.

It is worthy of note that stereoscopic films do not harm eyesight. However, reusable plastic glasses may transmit eye infections.

Italian teenager slashes dad's throat in Playstation row

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Tuesday, January 26, 2010 | | 3 comments »

A 16-year-old Italian boy in Turin has cut his father's throat after a dispute over the FIFA Soccer 2009 Playstation video game, national media said on Monday.

The boy is said to have lost his temper after his father kept giving him advice on what moves to make. The teenager then snapped "I know how to play myself" and swore at his father.

His enraged dad then switched off the console without letting his son finish the match.

The boy then took a knife from the kitchen, returned to the living room and silently stabbed his father in the neck. He then calmly washed the knife and went to his bedroom.

His mother found her husband bleeding and called the ambulance and police. The man was in a critical condition, but survived.

The teenager admitted his guilt and was taken to a juvenile correctional facility. An investigation is underway.

Video games, which are primarily aimed and marketed for children and young adults, have long been studied for links to addiction and aggression.

Haiti: The U.S. Created the Earthquake in Haiti?

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Monday, January 25, 2010 | , | 29 comments »
The Russian Navy reports that the U.S. created the earthquake in Haiti

The Northern Fleet has been monitoring the movements and activities of U.S. Marines in the Caribbean since 2008 when the Americans announced their intention to reestablish the Fourth Fleet, which was disbanded in 1950, and that Russia responded a year later, with the Fleet led by the nuclear-powered cruiser Peter the Great "by starting its first exercises in this region since the end of the Cold War.”

Since the end of the decade of the 70's in the last century, the U.S. "advanced a lot" in the state of its earthquake weapons and, according to these reports, they now use equipment with Pulse, Plasma and Tesla Electromagnetic and Sonic technology together with "shock wave bombs."

The report also compares the experiences of these two earthquake weapons of the U.S. Navy last week, when the test in the Pacific caused an earthquake of magnitude 6.5 to strike in the area around the town of Eureka, Calif., causing no casualties. But the test in the Caribbean caused the death of at least 140 thousand innocent people.

According to the report, it is "more than likely" that the U.S. Navy had "full knowledge" of the catastrophic damage that this test earthquake could potentially have on Haiti and had pre-positioned its Deputy Commander of the Southern Command, General PK Keen, on the island to oversee aid work if needed.

As regards the final result of the tests of these weapons, the report warns that there is a U.S. plan to destroy Iran through a series of earthquakes designed to overthrow its current Islamic regime. Additionally, according to the report, the system being tested by the USA (HAARP Project) would also create anomalies in the climate causing floods, droughts and hurricanes.

According to another report, coincidentally, facts exist establishing that the earthquake in Sichuan, China on 12 May 2008, a magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale, was also caused by HAARP radio frequencies. It can be observed that there is a correlation between seismic activity and the ionosphere, through the control of Radio Frequencies Induced by force fields, which is a HAARP feature, and it can be concluded that:

1 .- Earthquakes identical in depth and linearly on the same fault are caused by induced frequency linear projection.

2 .- A coordinated satellite configuration can generate concentrated frequency projections targeting specific points (force fields).

3. A diagram shows that earthquakes considered to be artificial propagate linearly at the same depth.

-Venezuela, on January 8, 2010. Depth: 10 km.

- Honduras, on 11 January 2010. Depth: 10 km.

- Haiti, on 12 January 2010. Depth: 10 km.

The rest of the aftershocks occurred at depths close to 10 km.

Soon after the earthquake, the Pentagon said the hospital ship USS Comfort, which was docked in Baltimore, summoned its crew and sailed to Haiti, despite the fact that several days would elapse before arrival in Haiti. Nevertheless, Navy Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the U.S. armed forces were preparing an emergency response to the disaster.

General Douglas Fraser, Commander-in-Chief of USSSOUTHCOM, said that Coast Guard and U.S. Navy vessels in the region were sent to offer help even if they had limited resources and helicopters.

The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson was sent from the naval base at Norfolk, Virginia, with a complete consignment of aircraft and helicopters. It arrived in Haiti early on the afternoon of January 14. Other additional groups of helicopters will attach with the Carl Vinson, said Fraser.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), operated in Haiti before the earthquake. President Obama was informed of the earthquake at 17.52 on January 12 and asked his staff to ensure that embassy officials were safe and began preparations to provide needed humanitarian assistance.

According to the Russian report, the State Department, USAID and the U.S. Southern Command began its work of "humanitarian invasion" by sending at least 10,000 soldiers and contractors, to control Haitian territory, rather than the UN, after the devastating "experimental earthquake."

Austrian thrill-seeker to jump from 23 miles

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Monday, January 25, 2010 | | 2 comments »

An Austrian extreme parachutist will become the first person to break the sound barrier by skydiving from an altitude of 36.5 kilometers (22.68 miles) after rising in a hot-air balloon, local media said on Saturday.

Felix Baumgartner, who earlier leapt off the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan's largest city and crossed the English Channel in free fall, intends to set a new world record in a 35-second free fall, being equipped only with a helmet and a costume to protect him from pressure changes, papers said.

Baumgartner, the 40-year-old Salzburg native, believed he would develop a speed of 1,300 km (808 miles) per hour in 30 seconds, media reports said.

"Of course there is general fear, as before every jump," Baumgartner told the German DPA news agency.

"But jumping is my life and all my life I have dreamt of this jump, precisely this jump. Fear is therefore no obstacle, it only ensures that we do this right," he said.

DPA said it would take more than three hours for Baumgartner to rise to his jumping altitude in a large dirigible filled with helium.

Baumgartner was in the focus of media attention in 2003, when he crossed the English Channel in free fall, wearing a 2-meter (6.6-feet) wing on his back. He also made headlines when he jumped off the Taipei skyscraper, the world's then-tallest building, without permission in 2007. The thrill-seeker managed to flee the country before police could arrest him.

Baumgartner intends to break the record set in 1960 by Joe Kittinger, who is now an advisor to Baumgartner's team, DPA said. Kittinger, a former command pilot with the US Air Force, then jumped from an altitude of over 31 kilometers (19.3 miles) using a parachute.

Meteorite strikes doctor's office

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Friday, January 22, 2010 | | 0 comments »
Doctors at a small US medical practice got a big surprise when a tennis ball-sized meteorite punched a hole through their roof. No one was injured.

Dr Frank Ciampi says the rock struck the two-story building around 5.30pm Monday in Lorton, Virginia, a town not far from Washington.

He says they heard a loud bang and found the projectile punched through the roof and ceiling, raining down pieces of wood, plaster and insulation.

The half-pound rock split into three chunks. A television station staffer took it to the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of Natural History and experts confirmed it was a meteorite.

They estimated it was travelling about 355kph when it struck.

Hungarian firefighters fined for parking violations

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Friday, January 22, 2010 | | 2 comments »

Hungarian voluntary firefighters were fined for parking violations while saving people from fire in the country's southern city of Kaposvar, local radio said on Thursday.

The fire broke out in an office building in downtown Kaposvar. Voluntary firefighting detachments arrived at the site to join other firemen in extinguishing the blaze.

While the volunteers were busy putting the fire out and saving people, parking control officials attached parking tickets to the windshields of their cars for parking in non-designated zones.

The radio report said the cars had identification tags showing they were firefighters.

The public condemned the parking control officials, however, the local parking control service's chief said his subordinates had no right to decide which car owners should be ticketed and which should not.

Eventually the fines were cancelled due to wide public protests.

HAARP Antennas, Some Say Can Be Used to Modify Weather

U.S. military has the technology to generate terrible natural disasters: Project HAARP

Just 48 hours after the world began to learn about the terrible consequences created by the earthquake registered in Haiti measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, Barack Obama announced that 3,500 American soldiers would leave for Haiti immediately to provide "solidarity".

The tragedy drew expressions of Haiti's immediate cooperation from dozens of countries. The small airport of Port collapsed, and the United States has direct control of the airport.

According to Roger Searle, professor of geophysics at the University of Durham (UK), Haiti's earthquake was 35 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb. The professor also compared the energy released by an earthquake in the Caribbean country with the explosion of half a million tons of TNT.

However, according to Searle's thesis, the energy released in an earthquake in Haiti is a hundredth of the one which exploded during the devastating tsunami in Banda Aceh, in southern Asia. No doubt the tsunami and its destructive power caused a terrible impression on mankind.

Some readers will say, these phenomena are the result of pollution and destruction of the planet, others will say, earthquakes have always existed and are part of how our planet is made up, and others will ask do these phenomena only have natural causes or is some power interested in continuing to occupy strategic zones behind an imperial military plan of unimaginable proportions?

The U.S. Air Force has developed a dangerous project, like something out of a fiction film, but it is not, and that the international community does not know it is running. The HAARP project is a system which can generate violent and unexpected changes in climate.

The Castilian translation of the acronym is HAARP: Research Program for High Frequency Active Aurora. It operates from an attack on the ionosphere with high frequency waves with the power of 1GW, launched from a complex of antennas located in Alaska. The Americans have managed to reproduce an artificial aurora borealis. This system can use energy that is present outside of terrestrial space and bring them together for the purpose of generating abrupt climate changes. That way HAARP can be used as a weapon of war.

Will HAARP be anti-myth or paranoia? No, in its resolution of 28 January 1999 on environment, security and foreign policy (A4-0005/1999), the European Parliament pointed out that the HAARP program is manipulating the environment for military purposes and requested HAARP. The European body, far from suspected as being anti-imperialist requested the establishment of an international convention prohibiting the development of the weather machine.

In accordance with previous scientific investigations and related to the manipulation of frequencies in the ionosphere, it is known that through satellites or other instruments which serve as reconductors it is possible the so-called hyper fields that generate HAARP for uses other than climate change can be used. Among these uses are aspects which are not necessarily harmful to mankind, such as generating the ozone layer.

HAARP also potentially has the capacity to disintegrate objects, generate spontaneous and induced combustions, and even change brain patterns, induce behavior and to cause biological diseases. Research on the HAARP project have emerged from American universities and European centers.

One of the pioneers in research on HAARP is Nick Begich, a research scientist in Anchorage, Alaska, the region where the antennas are located for the project. Begich's research was not only scientific, but also political. He discovered connections between patents and secrecy reserved for the U.S. government, and all related companies that were taking charge of patents. Among the research he has reported, there were some that were about "how to" type Nuclear Explosions without Radiation “radiant energy systems, on horizon radar, detection systems for missiles carrying nuclear warheads, electromagnetic pulses produced by weapons before thermonuclear and other resources of Space War."

Among those who have written about HAARP related projects, is Zbigniew Brzezinski, former security adviser to former President Jimmy Carter, who is related to the political tendency within the American system of power that is Barack Obama. Brzezinski noted the existing alternatives for changes in the thinking of humans and in the ecological war. He said that despite the inconveniences that could be created in certain sectors, the use of technology such as HAARP was inevitable.

"Haiti was a threat to U.S. interests? Obviously not, nor is it a nation that at first sight possesses indispensable natural resources to Washington. What Haiti represents is a key geographical position in the Caribbean in the context of Latin America that is fighting for the recovery processes of major sovereignty since the War of Independence.

Haiti is also one of the world's poorest countries, treated by both U.S. and some European powers as a field of experimentation. Of the Empire little can be doubted.

Avatar banned by Chinese sensors because plot 'could cause civil unrest'

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Tuesday, January 19, 2010 | | 0 comments »
James Cameron's $1 billion epic Avatar is to be banned from being screened in China because the country’s sensors believe the Hollywood blockbuster’s plot will lead to civil unrest, according to reports.

The Golden Globe-winning film, which was expected to earn more than 500 million yuan (£45 million) at the Chinese box office, will instead be replaced with a patriotic biopic on the life of Confucius, it was claimed.

Avatar, which won Cameron best director and also best film at the 67th annual Golden Globes at the weekend, is set on a distant planet populated by the Na'vi, an eco-conscious, blue-skinned alien tribe with no understanding of modern technology.

The science-fiction epic is on course to be the biggest grossing movie ever.

A disabled Marine, played by the Australian actor Sam Worthington, is sent to infiltrate the tribe but soon "goes native" and leads them in a defence of their homeland against the white invaders.

He also falls in love with an alien woman, who rejects a Na'vi suitor and becomes his wife.

The main Na'vi characters, who face the threat of eviction from their woodland home, are played by black actors, including Zoe Saldana and Laz Alonso.

But Chinese sensors are reportedly worried the film’s plot, which has been hit by accusations of racism, could lead to civil unrest in the country when it was due to premiere later this month.

Parallels have been drawn between the plight of the Na'vi and those in China vulnerable to, often brutal, eviction by predatory property developers, according to Hong Kong's Apple Daily.

The paper reported that the state-run China Film Group has issued orders to cinemas across the country to stop showing the 2D version of the film and only show the film in 3D.

Because so few cinemas have 3d technology, the order effectively prevents the blockbuster’s general distribution.

"The Central Publicity Department is said to have issued an order to the media prohibiting it from hyping up Avatar," the newspaper said.

“Reportedly, the authorities have two reasons for this check on Avatar: first, it has taken in too much money and has seized market share from domestic films, and second, it may lead audiences to think about forced removal, and may possibly incite violence.”

Bloggers are also speculating about the toll Avatar, which won xxx Golden Globes on Monday, could inflict on home-grown films.

The Confucius picture is directed by Hu Mei and stars Chow Yun-fat as the sage.

Reports said the film opened on January 4 and soon drew lengthy queues despite one of the coldest winters in years.

Box-office takings hit a record 56 million yuan (£5million) for a single day and IMAX cinemas due to show the full 3-D version are reportedly booked up for weeks.

Mexico City to punish tweets on police checkpoints

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Tuesday, January 19, 2010 | | 0 comments »
Some Twitter users are revealing the locations of police drunk-driving checkpoints in Mexico City and the people behind the tweets could be prosecuted, police said.

Mexico City Public Safety Department spokesman Julio Iver said it is illegal for anyone to "divulge privileged information on police agencies," but he did not say what sanctions the Twitter users could face.

Mexico City police change the location of the breath-test checkpoints each day to discourage drunk driving.

Police cannot do roving tests from their patrol cars, because the city requires that a doctor be present to administer the exams.

A Twitter account has been tweeting the location of the checkpoints since at least December, apparently allowing motorists to avoid them.

Called "Anti Breath Test," the account now has over 3400 followers.

The city's criminal code sets out fines of NZ$600 to NZ$3000, and jail terms of six months to five years, for anyone who "in any way assists a criminal in avoiding investigation by legally constituted authorities or in escaping from them."

As of Monday, the account continued active, with tweets from users with nicknames like "drinkspiration," warning about checkpoints and badmouthing the police threat of prosecution.

Russian Astrologists Cancel Apocalypse in 2012

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Tuesday, January 19, 2010 | | 0 comments »
Russian astrologists are skeptical about predictions of an apocalypse that is to happen in 2012 according to the Maya calendar. Yet, they do think that new war conflicts are possible.

“We cannot speak about the apocalypse, but it could be a crisis of consciousness for the Maya descendants,” said Pavel Globa, a popular Russian astrologist at a round table in Moscow on Tuesday. “ The issue of the apocalypse is in our minds. I’m not that familiar with the Maya calendar, but if it is accepted, it works on a level of the absolute unconscious. You have to remember, however, that the calendar is not a primary thing, “Interfax cited Globa’s words.

According to the Maya calendar, in 2012 we will be completing the Fifth Sun and entering the Sixth Sun. This transition is associated with the end of the modern history of mankind.

“In terms of cosmic cycles, 2012 is no different than 2010, yet it might be an interesting year for Russia. In the fall of 2012 Saturn will enter Scorpio and within the period between September 2008 and October 8, a large cross will shape in the sky. This cross may mark a breaking point when issues associated with wars are possible, “the astrologist said.

He provided empirical evidence and analogies. In particular, he mentioned that in the end of the 15 century, everyone was waiting for an apocalypse that was to happen in 1497, and in the fall of 1498 Columbus discovered America.

Another participant of the round table, Michael Levin, provost of the Academy of Astrology, also noted that “the calendar is secondary in terms of Earth’s time.” As for the crisis of consciousness predicted for 2012, the astrologist suggested that it lasts for thousands of years and usually goes unnoticed.

"Years 2012, and 2017 through 2020, are a new crop on earth, and I am not expecting any global changes in the history of mankind. We will reap the results in thousands of years,” Levin said. He brought the history on Christianity as an example. “Thousands of years ago the Great Roman Empire should have looked at Judaea more closely. At that time no one knew that the new religion will spread all over the world and that the Roman Empire was to collapse,” he said.

According to the Maya calendar which is based on the periods of 394 years known as baktuns, the 13th baktun is completed on December 21, 2012. The number of 13 is sacred for the Maya. The calendar shows that the time ends that day.

Besides, in 1960s, the so called Monument Six was found in Mexico. The monument represented stone plates with text saying that in 2012 something involving Bolon Yookte K, god of War and Xibalbá, was to happen. The end of the inscription is barely readable because of erosion and cracks. An archeologist suggested that the text goes something like “Bolon Yookte K will come down from the sky.”

Various Western interpreters linked the prediction with a series of astronomical events to happen in 2012. During winter solstice in 2012, the Sun will be on the same line with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in 26 thousand years. They believe it means that the flow of energy coming to Earth from the center of Milky Way will be disrupted 12.21.12 at 11:11 pm.

This theory is “propped” with the fact that there were many talented astronomers among ancient Maya. Yet, many scientists still doubt that they could know about relative position of the planets and place so much emphasis on it.

Haiti Earthquake: 200,000 is the figure

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Monday, January 18, 2010 | | 0 comments »
International aid is trickling into Haiti, 72 hours after the devastating earthquake which razed Port-au-Prince. 50,000 people have been buried, many more are lying in the streets or crushed beneath collapsed buildings. We take our readers around Port-au-Prince on a horrific excursion written by eyewitnesses. The first horrifying figure of 200,000 deaths appears.

300,000 homeless…50,000 buried. Finally the aid starts to pour in to Haiti, to the tune of 90 flights a day, from China, from Russia, from Cuba, from the USA, from the UK, from Canada and from Latin America.

40% of the population of Haiti is under 15 years of age. The most optimistic estimates today are 100,000 dead, the most pessimistic 500,000. Interior Minister Paul Antoine Bien-Aime declared on Friday that “We have already collected around 50,000 dead bodies; we anticipate there will be between 100,000 and 200,000 dead in total although we will never know the exact number”. Other figures were forwarded by Aramick Louis, the secretary of state for public safety, who said 40,000 bodies have been buried and another 100,000 people probably died in the earthquake.

“We can’t cook. We don’t have electricity”

7.000 US nurses have volunteers to go to Haiti.

Ban Ki-Moon, UN Secretary-General: 50% of the buildings in Port-au-Prince have been destroyed or seriously damaged. The international response has been “robust” according to the Secretary-General but he admits Haitians are frustrated.

President René Preval to President Barack Obama: "From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of the Haitian people, thank you, thank you, thank you."

Hospitals: Stretched to the limit. Doctors and nurses insufficient. Lack of water. Pipes damages. No fuel. No generators. No power. Thousands of people needing hospital treatment wandering around or being carted round the streets in makeshift ambulances.

Reports of looting of food exist but have been grossly exaggerated, according to U.N. World Food Program spokeswoman Emilia Casella.

Ambulances: motorbikes, pickups, doors used like stretchers.

Porn Flick Appears on Giant Video Screen in Moscow Center

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Monday, January 18, 2010 | | 0 comments »
A porn flick appeared showing on a giant video screen installed on a busy highway in the center of Moscow. The incident, which took place on January 14, resulted in a traffic jam. Drivers would pull over and rub their eyes because they would not believe what they could see. Luckily, there were no car accidents.

The commercial director of Panno.ru, the company that owned the screen, said that the porn flick appeared on the screen as a result of a hacker attack. The adult video was showing on the screen for approximately 2 minutes, eyewitnesses said.

“Most likely, a commercial video was replaced with an adult one when the control computer was hacked,” the director of the company said.

Some people took pictures of the sight with their mobile phones and posted them on the Internet (ADULT CONTENT!!!)

Passer-by Alyona Prokulatova told The Associated Press that she was "so shocked that I couldn't even shoot video or take a picture of it."

The committee for advertising and information of the Moscow government is investigating the incident.

A woman in eastern Spain spent eight days trapped in an elevator before police finally freed her, Spanish media reported on Friday.

The 35-year-old woman lived alone in a three-story house in the town of Sitges, near Barcelona. The lift, which was in her home, is thought to have malfunctioned due to an electrical fault.

Her relatives alerted the police after they had not heard from her for several days. Police found the woman conscious, but disorientated.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, but doctors say she has no serious health problems.

Police say it is not yet clear how she managed to survive.

H1N1, the False Pandemic

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Wednesday, January 13, 2010 | | 16 comments »
Wolfgang Wodarg, Head of Health at the Council of Europe, considers that the A H1N1 scare was a “campaign of panic”, a “false pandemic”, “one of the great medicine scandals of the century” and claims that the vaccines, based on cancerous cells, spell the chilling message “there is worse to come”.

For Wolfgang Wodarg, the pandemic of A H1N1, which started as Mexican Flu, then Swine Flu, was no more and no less than a campaign to create a false notion of insecurity for the pharmaceutical companies to cash in. “The great campaign of panic we have seen provided a golden opportunity for representatives from labs who knew they would hit the jackpot in the case of a pandemic being declared,” he declared.

Claiming that the “pandemic” is “one of the great medicine scandals of the century,” Dr. Wodarg has called for an enquiry. The resolution he proposed for an investigation into the role of the pharma companies in the A H1N1 story has been passed by the Council of Europe, which is based in Strasbourg. An emergency debate will be held at the end of January.

“We want to clarify everything that brought about this massive operation of disinformation. We want to know who made decisions, on the basis of what evidence, and precisely how the influence of the pharmaceutical industry came to bear on the decision-making,” declared Dr. Wodarg, adding that a group of people in the World Health Organization “is associated very closely with the pharmaceutical industry”.

Are the vaccines dangerous?

Regarding the vaccines, Dr. Wodarg delivered some chilling statements in an interview with the French publication L’Humanité on Sunday: “The vaccines were developed too quickly. Some ingredients were insufficiently tested. But there is worse to come. The vaccine developed by Novartis was produced in a bioreactor from cancerous cells, a technique that had never been used until now”.

The health expert added that this was not necessary and huge quantities of public money were squandered as a result, developing a vaccine which has not followed the usual processes in place in national and international public institutions: “The latter are now discredited because millions of people have been vaccinated with products with inherent possible health risks”.

Pharma companies made billions from mass hysteria

Wolfgang Wodarg further accused the makers of antiflu drugs and vaccines of influencing the WHO’s decision to call a global pandemic, facilitating the implanting of mechanisms which in turn generated billions of dollars in profits. The British Department of Health, for example, set up special procedures, suspended normal rules, told national and local authorities to prepare for 65,000 deaths, prepare the morgues for record numbers of fatalities and instructed the armed forces to be on stand-by.

The result was less than 5,000 cases and 251 deaths, the vast majority of which occurred in patients with serious underlying chronic health problems, or a death rate 260 times less than that expected.

The seeds had been sown

For Dr. Wodarg, the seeds were sown five years ago with the warning that H5N1, avian flu, could develop a human-to-human transmissible form. According to the health expert, Governments then began panic stockpiling for the eventuality of a pandemic and placed “sleeper contracts” which would be activated automatically once a pandemic had been called by the WHO.

For this reason, believes Dr. Wodarg, drug companies placed people inside the WHO mechanisms to facilitate the calling of the pandemic.

Patrick Charles, former Professor of the University of Havana, predicted in 2008 that there would be a massive earthquake in Port-au-Prince in the near future. Today, there was a Force 7.0 Richter, with an epicentre 14 miles from the capital city of Haiti. There are reports of massive damage, including a collapsed hospital.

Exact figures on casualties are not yet available but eye-witness accounts report chaos with many walls collapsed where houses used to stand.

The US Geological Survey confirms that the earthquake had a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale and was centred 14 miles south-west of the capital city Port-au-Prince. Eye witnesses speak of a ravine filled with rubble where houses used to stand and there are reports that the Hospital in Petionville has collapsed.

The quake struck at 21.53.UTC (21.53 GMT) at a location of 18.451°N, 72.445°W at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). An aftershock with a magnitude of 5.9 was registered and a local tsunami watch has been put into place for Haiti, Cuba, The Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.

In October 2008, Patrick Charles, former Professor at the Geological Institute of Havana stated that “conditions are ripe for major seismic activity in Port-au-Prince. The inhabitants of the Haitian capital need to prepare themselves for an event which will inevitably occur...”. His statements were printed in Le Matin newspaper, Haiti. Professor Charles added that “science has provided instruments that help predict these types of events and show how we have arrived at these conclusions.”

His predictions were based upon the fact that Port-au-Prince sits on a large fault line, part of the Enriquillo Fault Zone, which begins in Petionville and ends at Tiburon, which was razed twice by earthquakes in 1751 and 1771. He predicted that the minor tremors felt in Petionville, Delmas, Croix des Bouquets, and La Plaine in 2008 were a sign of something larger to come.

Professor Charles predicted that an earthquake of 7.2 or more would take place in or near Haiti’s capital with catastrophic consequences.

Italian woman gives birth to sextuplets

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Tuesday, January 12, 2010 | | 0 comments »

A 32-year-old Italian woman has given birth to sextuplets in the southern Italian city of Benevento, the head of the maternity ward where the babies came into the world told journalists on Monday.

Carmela Oliva had six babies by caesarian section on Sunday. The births are Italy's first sextuplets since 1997.

"The newborns will stay in the hospital for three months. As far as their chances for survival are concerned, at least a month is required before we can give a final answer," Luigi Orfeo said.

The babies were born 13 weeks premature and weigh from 600 to 800 grams (1.3-1.8 lbs). They are currently on assisted breathing apparatus. Their mother is in intensive care following the delivery.

The father, unemployed construction worker Pino Mele, has asked for assistance from the state.

The chance of a woman giving birth to sextuplets is about one in 4 million. As sextuplets are usually born prematurely, the survival rate is low.

World’s first 'sex robot'

Posted by Ivica Miskovic | Monday, January 11, 2010 | , | 2 comments »
The world’s first “sex robot”, a life-size rubber doll called Roxxxy who can have real conversations with her owner, including about football, has been unveiled.

The dark-haired, negligee-clad, life-size robotic girlfriend comes complete with artificial intelligence and flesh-like synthetic skin.

Standing five feet, seven inches tall, the doll weighs 120 pounds, comes with five “personalities”, is “ready for action” her developers said.

Aspiring partners can customise her features, including race, hair colour and breast size.

Roxxxy, who can chat with her flesh-and-blood mate about subjects including Manchester United, also elicits comments depending on how she is touched.

The anatomically-correct robot, who can even snore, has an articulated skeleton that can move like a person but can't walk or independently move its limbs.

There is Wild Wendy, who is outgoing and adventurous, Frigid Farrah, who is reserved and shy, a young unnamed doll with a naïve personality, “matriarchal kind of caring” Mature Martha and S & M Susan, who is geared for more adventurous types.

Coming with a laptop the doll, priced between US$7,000 (£4,350) to US$9,000 (£5,993), was unveiled at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas at the weekend.

Douglas Hines, the robot’s football loving inventor, said the real aim was to make the doll someone the owner can talk to and relate to.

“She can't vacuum, she can't cook but she can do almost anything else if you know what I mean,” the New Jersey-based artificial intelligence engineer said.

“She's a companion. She has a personality. She hears you. She listens to you. She speaks. She feels your touch. She goes to sleep. We are trying to replicate a personality of a person.”

She is wirelessly linked to the internet for software updates, technical support and to send her man email messages, he said.

Mr Hines, from TrueCompanion, said the doll could carry out simple conversations and was designed to “know exactly what you like”.

“Sex only goes so far, then you want to be able to talk to the person,” he said.

“She knows exactly what you like. If you like Porsches, she likes Porsches. If you like soccer, she likes soccer.”

People’s customised personalities can be shared with other users online through his company's website.

"Just think about wife or girlfriend swapping without actually giving the person to someone else," he said.

Its robotic movement is built into "the three inputs" while a mechanical heart powers a liquid cooling system.

Mr Hines said it was not only a recreational innovation but also something that shy people with sexual dysfunction, and those who want to experiment without risk, could use.

In a 2007 book, "Love and Sex with Robots," British chess player and artificial intelligence expert David Levy argues that robots will become significant sexual partners for humans, answering needs that other people are unable or unwilling to satisfy.

Inspiration for the sex robot sprang from the September 11, 2001 attacks, he said, where a friend died and he vowed to store his personality forever.

The sex robot is available in Europe and the United States and will eventually be available all over the world.

A male version of the doll, dubbed Rocky, is also planned.
