Poor Larissa Riquelme; she gave it her best shot at the World Cup. The lingerie model was famously photographed with a cell phone in her cleavage, and then promised to run naked through the streets of Asuncion if Paraguay won the championship. And with all that, as a World Cup sideshow she still came in third to Paul the Octopus and the vuvuzela. Sad. But it turns out that her fame may have more legs than even Paul. After posing in Playboy Brazil recently, Riquelme has an even bigger gig; TV actress. And she'll be appearing in a show that stars Mexican World Cup player Cuauhtemoc Blanco.Mexico's Blanco was the oldest player (37) to score a goal at the 2010 World Cup. He'll be the star of a Mexican TV drama in which he plays a firefighter who moonlights as a player for a second division Mexican pro soccer team, Irapuato. Riquelme will be a regular on the show, but her exact role wasn't explained.
From Yahoo Sports:
"I know I'll be criticised, people will make fun of me, but I don't care, I'll give it all my efforts and I know I'll come through," said the thick-skinned and outspoken Blanco, who played in his third World Cup in South Africa this year.
Television drama series are the main strength of Mexico's Televisa, the biggest Spanish language broadcasters in the world.
Blanco, who slammed the Mexican Football Federation at the weekend for suspending two players for six months and fining 11 others for a party they held after a friendly against Colombia this month, has played in the second division since returning from two years with Chicago Fire in the United States in 2009.
Of course if I were writing the scripts, the first episode would have Ines Sainz touching off a controversy by being in the locker room while the firemen are trying to shower. But that's probably too conservative for Mexican TV.
